Boston Globe, August 8, 1931
Charlie was no stranger to car accidents. In 1936, he and Paulette were involved in a crash on Hollywood Boulevard. Charlie's Japanese chauffeur stopped at a crosswalk to let some people go by and the car was hit from behind. Paulette received a bump on the head. Years later in 1959, Jerry Epstein was driving Charlie & Oona to Shepperton Studios in England when the car slipped on an icy road and collided with a bus. No one was injured. Charlie shrugged off the accident to a reporter and said things like that happened to him "almost every day in Switzerland."
